La Rocco in Jersey is a fairly exposed beach break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong west or southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the east or northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of grounded Atlantic swells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline near the historic tower that can become quite punchy when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a popular anchor point at the southern end of St. Ouen’s Bay, the wide beach usually allows for a manageable lineup. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and the extreme tidal range. The best conditions reported for surf at La Rocco occur when a West swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the East-northeast.
