Grève d'Azette in Jersey is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong south or southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the north or northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells or pushed-up Atlantic swells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline and rocky patches that can become quite punchy when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is rarely as crowded as the main west coast breaks like St. Ouen’s, the lineup can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and numerous submerged rocks. The best conditions reported for surf at Grève d'Azette occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northeast.
