Green Island Beach in Jersey is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong south or southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the north or northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells or grounded Atlantic swells that wrap around the coast, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline and rocky outcrops that can become quite punchy when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, the spread of peaks usually allows for a manageable lineup. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and the many submerged rocks and reefs that appear as the tide drops. The best conditions reported for surf at Green Island Beach occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northeast.
