📍 Local Knowledge
Waimanu Bay on the Big Island is an exposed beach and reef break known for its reliable surf and scenic seclusion. It can work throughout the year, but winter brings the most consistent, clean waves. The spot performs best when a northeast swell combines with offshore winds from the south-southwest, offering well-shaped waves that break both left and right. The break handles all tide stages and remains uncrowded even when the surf is on. Hazards include strong rip currents and the presence of sharks, so caution is advised. March is typically the best month for scoring clean, rideable waves at Waimanu Bay.
