It works best when a north-northwest swell meets offshore winds from the south, producing clean waves suitable for all stages of the tide. The lineup is typically uncrowded, offering a more solitary surf experience even on good days. Despite its appeal, surfers should stay alert for hazards like urchins, sharp rocks, strong rips, private land access, localism, and sharks. January is generally the best time to catch reliable, clean surf at Upolu Point.
