📍 Local Knowledge

Turtles Reef in Oahu is a fairly exposed reef break that can pick up both windswells and groundswells, with optimal conditions occurring when southwest swells meet offshore winds from the east-northeast. The break remains uncrowded even on good days, offering a more solitary surf experience. However, surfers should be cautious of several hazards including urchins, rips, rocks, nearby buoys, localism, and sharks. The area is near private property, so respectful access is essential. The best time to catch clean, rideable waves at Turtles Reef is during summer, particularly in June.
