πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Richardsons on the Big Island is an exposed reef break offering fairly consistent surf and the potential to work year-round. The break is best when a northeast swell lines up with offshore winds from the southwest, delivering clean lefts and rights over the reef. Groundswells dominate here, providing a decent range of wave quality. While it's not a secret spot, it can get crowded when conditions are good. Hazards include sharp reef, urchins, sharks, and a touch of localism. The summer monthsβ€”especially Julyβ€”are most reliable for scoring clean, rideable surf at Richardsons.
