📍 Local Knowledge

Pakalas in Kauai is an exposed reef and point break celebrated for its consistency and long left-hand rides. Best during the summer, the spot comes alive when a south swell aligns with offshore winds from the north-northeast, offering smooth, peeling waves along the point. Both local windswells and distant groundswells feed the break, and it holds well across all tide stages. While not always packed, it can get crowded when the surf is on. Surfers should be cautious of urchins, strong rips, and submerged rocks. August is typically the standout month for clean, rideable surf at Pakalas.
