📍 Local Knowledge

Paia Bay in Maui is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf. Winter is the best time of year to catch waves here. When it's working, conditions are best when a north-northeast swell pairs with offshore winds from the south-southeast, producing clean lefts and rights. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Even when there are waves, it's not likely to be crowded. Hazards include urchins and rips, so use caution. While it's a dependable location, the month of December tends to offer the best chance for consistent, clean waves.
