Poor conditions right now. Tiny waves under 1ft with long-period 16s ground swell but strong 17kt winds making it choppy Note: winds from S would be better. Might want to wait for better conditions.

📍 Local Knowledge

Kohala Lighthouse in Big Island is an exposed reef break that offers consistent winter surf with a quality left-hand wave. It performs best when a north swell aligns with offshore winds from the south, creating clean, rideable conditions. The spot is surfable at all stages of the tide and is known to draw a crowd when it's firing. While the wave can be rewarding, surfers should watch out for urchins, sharp rocks, strong rips, localism, and private access restrictions. Sharks are also present in the area. January typically provides the most consistent and clean surf at Kohala Lighthouse.
