📍 Local Knowledge

Hanalei Bay in Kaua‘i is an exposed reef and point break known for its consistency and scenic backdrop. While summer tends to be mostly flat, winter brings reliable surf, especially when a north swell aligns with offshore winds from the south-southeast. The wave here breaks right over the reef and handles a range of conditions well, offering rideable surf at all stages of the tide. Its popularity means it can get crowded, particularly on good days. Hazards include localism and sharks, so respect the lineup. January is typically the best month for clean, powerful waves.
