📍 Local Knowledge

Generals on the Big Island is a fairly exposed reef break known for its fairly consistent surf, particularly during the winter months. It performs best with offshore winds from the east-northeast and a swell direction from the west-northwest. The wave here is a right-hand reef break, and when it's firing, it can draw a crowd. Despite the reliability, surfers should watch out for rips, submerged rocks, and the busy lineup. Winter offers the most consistent clean waves, with January typically delivering the best conditions.
