πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Chocks on the Big Island is an exposed reef break that only works under the right conditions and is best surfed during the winter months. It performs optimally when a north-northwest swell meets offshore winds from the east-southeast, offering rare but clean rides. This spot is known for its solitudeβ€”crowds are uncommon, even on good daysβ€”making it a quiet escape for those in the know. While the lineup might be mellow, the reef itself is not: hazards include sharp rocks, strong rips, and sea urchins. January is typically the best time to catch Chocks at its cleanest.
