📍 Local Knowledge

Banyans on the Big Island is an exposed and well-known reef break that delivers consistent surf throughout the year. The wave works best with offshore winds from the east and a swell direction from the northwest, producing both left and right reef breaks. It's a popular and often crowded spot, especially when conditions are good. Hazards include urchins and localism, so visitors should respect the lineup. While it can break year-round, the most reliable clean surf typically occurs in winter, with January being the peak month for quality waves.
