📍 Local Knowledge
Apua Point on the Big Island is an exposed reef break known for its consistent surf and remote setting. Although summer is generally considered favorable, the best conditions occur when a south-southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the northwest. The break offers both left and right reef options, delivering clean waves that hold up well on solid groundswells. Rarely crowded due to its isolated location, Apua Point is a rewarding spot for those willing to make the journey. Hazards include strong rips, submerged rocks, and the presence of sharks. January is typically the best month to catch reliable, clean surf here.
