📍 Local Knowledge

Dunkerque in Nord - Pas de Calais is a fairly exposed beach break that only works when conditions are just right, with the summer months typically remaining flat. It performs best with a north swell and offshore winds from the southeast, receiving an equal mix of windswells and groundswells. The spot provides both left and right-handers and is notably versatile, as it remains surfable at all stages of the tide. This is a remote wave spot that never gets crowded; however, surfers should be mindful of rocks, private beach access issues, a degree of localism, and potential pollution. The most consistent clean waves typically occur during the spring, particularly in May.
