📍 Local Knowledge

Wassaw Island's South End is a highly remote, boat-accessed beach-break with broad sandbars shaped by strong tidal dynamics. It performs best in winter—particularly December—when southeast swells align with offshore northwest winds to create cleaner peaks. The waves favor low to mid tide, typically offering short, punchy lefts and rights. Expect virtually zero crowds, thanks to the challenging access, but be aware that strong rip currents and shifting sandbars, combined with the isolation of the location, demand experienced, self-reliant surfers.
