📍 Local Knowledge

Playa de Valdoviño (Frouxeira) in Galicia is a fairly exposed beach break that has consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. This expansive, 3-kilometer stretch provides both left and right-hand waves driven primarily by powerful groundswells; while it performs best around low tide and offers some shelter from west winds at its southern end, it is likely to be crowded when the surf is up, and surfers must beware of rocks and strong rips. The best conditions reported for surf at Valdoviño occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southeast, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves is the month of October.
