The beach offers both left and right-handers and is notably less crowded than other spots in the region, even when the surf is up; it also provides some shelter from northwest winds. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Nerga occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is the month of February.
