📍 Local Knowledge

Playa de Montalbo in Galicia is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. The spot features both left and right-hand waves at the beach, complemented by offshore reef breaks that also peel both ways; it performs best around low tide and offers some shelter from northwest winds, though it can get crowded. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Montalbo occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is the month of February.
