📍 Local Knowledge

Playa de Area in Galicia is a sheltered beach break that only works when conditions are just right, making it a "fickle" but rewarding spot. This beautiful urban-adjacent beach provides both left and right-hand waves driven primarily by powerful groundswells; while it remains relatively uncrowded even on good days, surfers should be extremely cautious of dangerous rip currents. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Area occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southeast, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves is the month of February.
