Playa de Riazor (Matadeiro) in Galicia is a quite exposed beach and reef break that has reasonably consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. This urban spot provides left-breaking waves at the beach break and a right-hand reef break driven by a mix of local windswells and distant groundswells; while it is often crowded when the surf is up, it remains a favorite for city-dwellers despite potential pollution. The best conditions reported for surf at Matadeiro occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves is the month of December.
