📍 Local Knowledge

Shell Island in Alabama is an exposed beach and jetty break with consistent surf, especially during hurricane season. The break favors offshore winds from the northeast and swells from the southeast, primarily windswells rather than groundswells. It offers both left and right-hand waves and is fairly popular, sometimes getting crowded. Hazards include rip currents, sharks, and jellyfish. The best conditions occur in autumn, with October providing the most consistent clean waves.
