Amelia Pier in Fernandina Beach is an exposed beach-pier break that picks up northeast groundswells and can deliver fun, rideable waves when the swell and wind align. It performs best in winter—especially January, when long-period swell and offshore (northwest) breezes combine to produce cleaner peaks. The wave usually performs around low to mid tide, with the best shape forming in front of the pier. Crowds tend to stay moderate by East Coast standards, as the pier diffuses the lineup; surfers should stay alert for rips, pier pilings, and occasional marine life such as jellyfish or sharks.
