Indian River (Southside) in Delaware is an exposed beach and jetty break that offers fairly consistent surf and can work throughout the year. It performs best when a south-southeast swell aligns with offshore winds from the west, producing waves that tend to favor right-handers. The break handles both local windswells and distant groundswells and delivers good surf across all stages of the tide. While itβs a dependable spot, crowds are common when conditions are favorable. Surfers should be aware of several hazards, including urchins, rip currents, rocks, pollution, sea-lice, and even the occasional shark. The best time for clean, rideable waves is during summer, with July typically offering the most reliable conditions.
