π Local Knowledge
Playa Negra, an exposed beach and point break in Guanacaste, offers consistent left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a west-northwest groundswell with offshore winds from the east. The break works best around mid-tide. The spot is a popular wave that can sometimes get crowded, and surfers should be aware of urchins and rocks. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in January.
