📍 Local Knowledge

Playa Herradura is a fairly exposed left-hand reef and point break in Golfo de Nicoya that offers unreliable waves. The most favorable conditions are a southwest groundswell with offshore winds from the east-northeast. The break works best around mid-tide when the tide is rising. When the surf is up, crowds are likely, and surfers should be aware of rips, rocks, and private access. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in July.
