Playa Hermosa is an exposed beach break in Costa Rica that offers powerful, consistent surf when swells line up. It works best with offshore winds from the northeast and groundswells from the south to southwest. The most favorable conditions occur when a clean south-southwest swell combines with light offshore winds. The break provides both left and right-hand waves and can draw solid lineups during quality surf. Surfers should be cautious of strong rips, shifting sandbars, and occasional shorebreak. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during the Pacific swell season, especially between May and October.
