📍 Local Knowledge

Playa Chaman (Punta Uvita) is an exposed beach break in Costa Rica that offers mellow, rolling surf ideal for learners and intermediates. It works best with offshore winds from the east, and tends to pick up groundswells from the south to southwest. The most favorable conditions occur when a south-southwest swell combines with clean offshore east winds. The break provides both left and right-hand waves, often peeling over sandbanks, and generally sees light crowds. Surfers should be mindful of rips and shifting sandbars.
