Ostional is an exposed beach break in Guanacaste that offers very reliable surf. It works best with offshore winds from the east and groundswells from the west-northwest. The most favorable conditions occur when a west-northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the east. The beach provides both left and right-hand waves and is rarely crowded, even during good swells. However, surfers should be cautious of strong and dangerous rips. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during the winter months, particularly in January.
