It performs best when a strong east or southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the northwest or west. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline that can become quite punchy when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is rarely as crowded as the main city breaks, the lineup can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and shifting sandbars. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Sant Simó occur when an East-southeast swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest.
