Playa de Ponent is a fairly exposed beach break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong east or southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the northwest or north. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline that can handle moderate size before closing out. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While the open stretch of beach helps to spread out the crowd, the main peaks can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and shifting sandbars. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Ponent occur when an East-southeast swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest.
