Platja Sa Tuna is a very sheltered cove and reef break that requires a massive swell to wrap into the small bay, making it a spot that works only once in a while. Winter is the most reliable time of year for waves, as the summer months are almost perpetually flat. It performs best when a powerful east or northeast swell combines with offshore winds from the west or southwest. Most of the surf arrives as short-period windswell, producing a short but often punchy wave that breaks over a rocky bottom and pebbles. The spot is best surfed around high tide to provide enough depth over the shallow rocks. Because it is so tucked away and inconsistent, it is rarely crowded, but the takeoff zone is very small. Surfers must exercise extreme caution due to the very narrow bay, rocky shoreline, and submerged boulders. The best conditions reported for surf at Platja Sa Tuna occur when a strong East swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the West.
