Platja de Pals is a fairly exposed beach break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when an east or northeast swell combines with offshore winds from the west or northwest. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across a long, sandy shoreline that can handle a decent amount of size before closing out. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While the vast stretch of beach helps to spread out the crowd, the main access points can become busy when a good swell arrives. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and shifting sandbars. The best conditions reported for surf at Platja de Pals occur when an East swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the West-northwest.
