La Fosca is a relatively sheltered beach and reef break that requires a substantial swell to function, with autumn and winter being the most productive seasons for waves. It performs best when a strong east or southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the west or northwest. Most of the surf arrives in the form of local windswells, producing a mix of left and right-handers that break over a sandy bottom with some rocky sections near the headlands. The spot is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often benefits from a rising tide to help the waves reach the shore with more consistency. While it is rarely excessively crowded, the lineup can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and be mindful of hazards such as submerged rocks near the edges of the bay and potential strong currents during larger swells. The best conditions reported for surf at La Fosca occur when an East-southeast swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the West-northwest.
