El Masnou in Catalunia is an exposed sandbar break that typically remains flat during the summer months. The best conditions occur when an east-southeast windswell—as the fetch is too short for groundswells to develop—combines with an offshore wind direction from the northwest. The sandbar breaks here are exclusively left-handers and remain surfable at all stages of the tide. While it is only sometimes crowded, the lineup can become hazardous when peak numbers are reached, so surfers should take special care during busy sessions.
