Barceloneta in Catalunia is an exposed beach break characterized by unreliable waves, with the summer months frequently remaining flat. The best conditions occur when an east-southeast local windswell—which is far more common here than groundswell—combines with an offshore wind direction from the west-northwest. The spot offers some shelter from northeast winds and provides both left and right-hand waves that remain consistent regardless of the tide. When the surf is working, it can get quite crowded, and surfers should be mindful of hazards including various obstacles and strong rips.
