📍 Local Knowledge
Plage Monica in Rabat to Casablanca is an exposed reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the southeast, though it lacks natural shelter from cross-shore breezes. Most of the waves arrive in the form of clean Atlantic groundswells, producing a variety of peaks across the rocky lineup that can become quite punchy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably tide-sensitive and remains rideable primarily around mid-tide, which often provides the cleanest faces and best wave shapes. While it is a reliable spot along this stretch of coast, the lineup can get quite busy and crowded in the water when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and dangerous submerged rocks. The best conditions reported for surf at Plage Monica occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southeast.
