Monica Beach in Rabat to Casablanca is an exposed reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, though it can provide dependable waves at any time of the year. It performs best when a strong northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the south. The waves arrive in the form of both Atlantic groundswells and windswells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks over the rocky reefs that can become quite punchy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably tide-sensitive and remains rideable primarily around mid-tide, which often provides the cleanest faces and best wave shapes. While it is a reliable spot along this stretch of coast, it can sometimes become crowded when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and dangerous submerged rocks. The best conditions reported for surf at Monica beach occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South.
