📍 Local Knowledge

Stony Bay in Banks Peninsula is an exposed beach break that offers quite consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when an East-southeast swell—which is just as likely to be a local windswell as a distant groundswell—combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southwest. The beach provides both left and right-hand waves and can get quite busy when the surf is up. Surfers should be cautious of hazards such as rips and rocks. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves at Stony Bay is during the winter, particularly during the month of June.
