New Brighton Beach in Kaikoura is a fairly exposed beach break that does not work very often, with no particular seasonal pattern for its surf. The best conditions occur when a distant East-northeast groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the West-southwest. The beach breaks offer both left and right-hand waves and can sometimes be crowded when it is working. The best time of year for surfing New Brighton Beach with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of July.
