📍 Local Knowledge

Kairaki Beach in Canterbury is an exposed beach break that has pretty consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a South-southeast swell, which is equally likely to be groundswell or windswell, combines with an offshore wind direction from the West. The beach break provides both left and right-handers and is unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. The best time of year for surfing Kairaki Beach with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
