Las Monjas (Gran Canaria) is an exposed reef break featuring both left and right-hand reef peaks that is usually a safe bet for waves, though summer tends to be mostly flat. The spot relies primarily on groundswells over local windswells, reaching peak performance around a high tide window when a northwest swell direction aligns with offshore winds blowing from the southeast. While it offers dependable setups from autumn through spring, winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves with light or offshore winds, with the month of December historically offering the most consistent clean windows. When the conditions line up and the break is working, the lineup can become crowded, requiring surfers and forecasters to maintain sharp awareness to navigate the crowds and avoid the primary physical hazard of shallow rocks.
