📍 Local Knowledge

El Roque (Gran Canaria) is an exposed reef break featuring a left-hand reef peak that delivers pretty consistent surf, with summer offering the most active window for raw setups. The spot handles a mix of groundswells and windswells, reaching peak performance around a high tide window when a north-northwest swell direction aligns with offshore winds blowing from the south. While summer provides plenty of wave activity, winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves with light or offshore winds, with the month of October historically offering the most consistent early-season clean windows. When conditions line up, the break can sometimes get crowded, requiring surfers to keep a close eye on the primary localized hazard of shallow rocks.
