El Cable - Playa Honda (Lanzarote) is a sheltered reef break that only works when conditions are just right, with the summer months in particular tending to be flat. The spot relies primarily on local windswells over distant groundswells, reaching peak performance at all stages of the tide when a southwest wave direction combines with offshore winds blowing from the west. Because there is no natural shelter from cross-shore breezes, the spot is highly sensitive to wind shifts. When a quality session is running, the lineup can sometimes get crowded, requiring careful navigation to avoid the hazardous local rocks.
