📍 Local Knowledge
El Arenal (Tenerife) is an exposed sandbar break featuring both left and right peaks that delivers fairly consistent surf, with winter being the favored time of year for waves. The spot is equally receptive to windswells and groundswells, reaching peak performance at all stages of the tide when a north swell direction aligns with offshore winds blowing from the southeast. The location benefits from some natural shelter from these southeast winds. While winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves, the month of December historically offers the most consistent conditions. When the surf is up, the lineup can sometimes get crowded, requiring extra caution regarding the localized challenge of localism.
