📍 Local Knowledge
Bocabarranco (Gran Canaria) is an exposed beach and reef break that delivers consistent surf throughout the cooler months, though summer tends to be mostly flat. The spot is equally receptive to groundswells and windswells, reaching peak performance around a high tide window when a north-northwest swell angle aligns with offshore winds blowing from the south. While it offers dependable wave setups from autumn through spring, winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves with light or offshore winds, with the month of October historically offering the most consistent early-season clean windows. Because it breaks so frequently, the lineup is often crowded. Beyond crowd management, surfers and forecasters must take note of an important environmental issue here, as the water quality is rather suspect.
