Arinaga (Gran Canaria) is a sheltered reef break featuring a left-hand reef peak that delivers reasonably consistent surf, with autumn and winter being the optimum times of year for waves. The spot relies primarily on groundswells over local windswells, reaching peak performance around a low tide window when a north swell angle aligns with offshore winds blowing from the west. While autumn and winter both consistently produce wave setups, winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves with light or offshore winds, with the month of February historically offering the most consistent clean windows. When the surf is up, crowds are highly likely, requiring surfers and forecasters to keep a close eye on a combination of localized hazards that includes a packed lineup, shallow rocks, and strong rip currents.
