It faces west and northwest, allowing it to receive consistent swell during the fall and winter months. The main breaks include beach peaks and a more defined reef section that can produce faster, more powerful waves. Winds from the east or northeast provide the best conditions, especially when paired with long-period groundswells. The bottom is a mix of sand and rock, with sandy beach breaks closer to town and reefier setups near rocky outcrops. Westport is typically uncrowded, but conditions can vary quickly due to shifting sandbars and coastal weather. The most reliable and clean surf usually happens from late fall through early spring.
