Ventura Overhead in Ventura is a fairly exposed reef break with generally unreliable surf, though it can deliver solid waves under the right conditions. It performs best when a northwest swell meets offshore winds from the northeast, generating both left and right-hand reef breaks powered primarily by groundswells. The break is most active during the winter months, when swell consistency improves. Despite its inconsistency, it often draws a crowd when it’s working. Surfers should be cautious of strong rip currents, which are a known hazard at this spot. The best conditions typically occur in winter, with January offering the most reliable window for clean, rideable waves.
